Birth & Postnatal Sessions

I have worked in the arena of birth since the late 80s and have devoted over 30 years of my life to learning about birth from as many angles and experiences as I can.

Working in the arena of birth for over 30 years

I am committed to bringing as much awareness, consciousness and continued learning around the mystery that is birth for I believe it is probably one of the most heroic journeys we will engage with, as baby, as well as mum.

I have studied prenatal and birth psychology for many years with Karlton Terry and Matthew Appleton.

My point of interest is how we inhabit our (miraculous) physiology as individuals, exploring how not to inhibit the physiology that is there to help us. I believe that if we support birth and the unfolding of new life with as much awareness as we can, then we are supporting the unfolding of consciousness in human life.

Active Birth and Yoga teacher

I worked for many years as an Active Birth and Yoga teacher at the Active Birth Centre and then for many years in Bristol, running antenatal and postnatal yoga classes, birth preparation and parenting workshops, attending births, training doulas and active birth teachers , and postnatal support.

Training doulas and antenatal teachers

I have taught and trained doulas and birth workers, in both the UK and abroad, with several teaching trips to Brazil, Lithuania, Portugal, Turkey and India. In 2016 with my colleague Louise Bennett we trained the first funded NHS doula training in the NHS Walsall.

The Seven Secrets of a Joyful Birth

In 2007 I had my book The Seven Secrets of Joyful Birth published and this has led to many teaching opportunities abroad and in the UK.

How can I help?

  • One to one (or couple) birth preparation sessions generally one and a half hours or two hours long and cost £60 per hour in-clinic, tailor made depending on requirements. I bring 30 years of experience to these sessions.
  • Craniosacral Therapy for mothers, parents and babies. Especially helpful after birth for mum and baby. I like to include the baby into the experience and include baby advocacy into the birth prep sessions.
  • Ante and postnatal counselling whether this is for relationship issues, supporting the growth into the birth of the family, or around fears in pregnancy, or birth trauma post birth and anxiety issues, postnatal depression for men and women, parenting issues.

Distance learning

I also offer a specialist distance learning package called Antenatal Wisdom with my colleague Amanda Rayment for doulas and birth teachers, counsellors and body workers, wanting to extend study around the emotional. psychological and spiritual aspects of birth.
